Who we are

About Deep Truth

Deep Truth exists because almost every "best AI writing tool" article is a rewritten press release with affiliate links bolted on. We buy the tools, run them through the same tests, and publish what actually came out. This page tells you who's behind it and how the money works, because you shouldn't have to guess.

Why this site exists

For five years I bought AI writing tools for a content agency. Every few months a client or a founder would ask which one to standardize on, and the honest answer was never the one the review sites gave. So we tested internally: same briefs, same prompts, side by side, and we kept the receipts. Deep Truth is that internal testing, published.

The bet is simple. There is a real, growing audience of people about to spend real money on these tools who are tired of being sold to. If we test properly and say the unflattering thing when it's true, that audience finds us and trusts us. If we don't, we're just another affiliate farm and we deserve to be ignored. The methodology page is the whole test protocol, published so you can check our work or run it yourself.

Dan Mercer, lead reviewer

I ran content operations at an agency that served B2B software and ecommerce clients, which meant I was the person signing off on tooling budgets and living with the consequences. I've written and edited enough copy to know within a paragraph whether a draft will take ten minutes to fix or an hour, and that instinct is what the editing-burden sub-score tries to make measurable. I'm skeptical of tools by default and I don't think that's a flaw in a reviewer.

Data-heavy pages and benchmark tables are published under the byline, which is me plus a second reviewer who scores the transcripts independently so no single set of tastes decides a number. Where the two of us disagree by more than a point, we argue it out against the transcript until we don't.

How we make money (the affiliate disclosure)

Deep Truth is reader-supported. Some of the links to the tools we review are affiliate links, which means if you sign up after clicking one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Here is exactly how we keep that from bending the reviews:

If you ever read a review here and feel the score doesn't match the write-up, tell me. That mismatch is the one thing this site can't afford.

Contact

Corrections, stale prices, tool suggestions, or a vendor who thinks we got them wrong: hello@deep-truth.net. We read everything and we publish corrections rather than quietly editing, because a review site that hides its mistakes is telling on itself.
